Blue River Band was formed in 2005..What began as a gathering of bluegrass musicians with the common intention of jamming in the spirit of bluegrass soon became more . The band quickly developed a following and was selected as a showcase band at the Argyle Bluegrass Festival in 2006, and again in 2007.
In 2008, they were given the singular honor of being the only local band ever to be invited to play the main stage at the Argyle Bluegrass Festival.
In the last few years, Blue River Band has performed at a host of bluegrass shows in Texas and Oklahoma. Among these is the Overton Bluegrass Festival in Overton, TX; Music Cit Texas theatre in Linden, TX; and Fire on the Strings, hosted by the Bay Area Bluegrass Association.
BRB plays traditional bluegrass and gospel, with an emphasis on hard-driving rhythm and strong vocals.
The band members are:
Gary Penny – mandolin/vocals
Michael Morrison - guitar/vocals
Andre Canard – bass/vocals
Wes Goodson – banjo/vocals
Leah Perry – fiddle/vocals
In 2008, Blue River Band released their first album, entitled ‘Blue Mountain Rain’, which contains seven traditional, and five original songs. The album also contains a foreword written by John Early and Don Eaves of Hickory Hill. Blue River Live was recorded in March 2009 and is now available.
BRB is glad to welcome Leah Perry to the band. Her vocals and fiddle add an exciting new texture to our sound. We want to congratulate Michael Morrison on winning the Texas State Flat Picking championship on May 16 2009. The 2009 band schedule is available on the main page of blueriverband.com.
Most importantly, BRB looks forward to seeing you at the show!
